The source material for these studies primarily comes from Rev Robert Hibbert (Bob). Born in 1943 Died in 2011. Bob was born into a family with a spiritual heritage, being part of the early Pentecostal work in England Bob related the incident when Smith Wigglesworth sat him on his knee and prayed for him “ that he might be a mighty prophet in the last days”
Bob started to move in the gifts of the Spirit at the age of 14, but struggled with the disparity he saw between what it said in the Bible and how he saw church people behave. Even from this age he wanted the book to come to life and wanted to ‘live it’. He rejected ‘religion’ got a job as soon as he could and experienced the world of ordinary working class people. He saw their honest struggles with life and their humanity and often said that Jesus favourite title was ‘Son of Man’.
After a series of different jobs he went to sea on a Herring Drifter and it was there while he was at the wheel, that the Lord called him. Bob went to Bible College as a mature student and could never have been described as an academic. When he preached it was under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and signs and wonders naturally followed because Bob took the word at face value and expected them to occur.
People are often attracted to miracles and the supernatural is sensational, but everywhere Bob ministered his priority was the Word. He used to say that the Word is alive, it is creative, when you put it inside you have an ally inside to help you with everything else.
Mark 16:15-20 says
And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news (the Gospel) to every creature of the whole human race. He who believes [who adheres to and trusts in and relies on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] and is baptized will be saved from the penalty of eternal death; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; They will pick up serpents; and even if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well. So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and He sat down at the right hand of God.And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord kept working with them and confirming the message by the attesting signs and miracles that closely accompanied it. Amen (so be it).
Bob spoke to congregations in Bulgarian in Bulgaria, though he never learned it and healings and miracles followed him in Eastern Europe, USA and Mexico. (But like Wigglesworth a prophet is never honoured in his own country)
Everyone you mentioned to Bob, he seemed to know personally and said ‘Great men stand on other Great men’s shoulders’. Like most preachers he will have picked up snippets from others and incorporated them into his own sermons, but he also had a remarkable revelation because of the sheer time he spent in the Lord’s presence.
The notes on this website are from his raw sermon notes, those we worked on together on the computer in his last 3 years and from the many conversations and discussions I had with him over a period of ten years.
Bob loved nothing better than to put the Word to Work.
Please use these notes as it says:
His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church), Ephesians 4:12
This is the way Bob would wish to be honoured.
And though he died, yet he is still speaking. Hebrews 11:4
